Indonesian forests are constantly being reduced to ash. If something doesn’t change soon, nothing will remain of these ancient and complex ecosystems. Large palm oil crops take over of monumental trees, home of many creatures. The forest is sacrificed for economic choices which not only Indonesia, but also western countries contribute to. Some of the endangered species of these territories are illustrated in the painting: the Orang Utan and the Sumatran tiger, the hornbills that fly away from the flames.
Travel and personal experiences in contact with natural places inspire my works of art. I created this painting after an excursion deep in the Gunung-Leuser rainforest in Sumatra and living in contact with the human populations settled on its edges. In the following months the impressions, feelings, and information are synthesized in the mind and create a visual image that is offered to the world.
