The rhinoceros is the protagonist of this engraving printed on Fabriano Intaglio-Paper. The animal is celebrated by my graphic sign and by gold.
Drops of dried blood stand out on the white of the precious sheet of paper. Fake blood wouldn’t have symbolically the same power as the presence of my real blood which makes the artwork even more unique.
On this intaglio print The horn is embellished with gold, since it is priceless. Instead, it does have a price, even if it is expensive and is taken from the killed animal. Some species of rhinos are already extinct to satisfy the demand of its horn. The use of the horn in traditional Chinese medicine is supportive of many human diseases and therefore still fuels its illegal trade. In any case it seems that the world will have to do without the rhino horn one day. There will be no more around.
The drops of blood and the gold on the horn were added after printing. This means that these details have differences on each specimen (intaglio printing also always has differences between one specimen and another, which is one of its unique characteristics). This print edition is composed of 8 copies. The 3rd of 8 is available for sale.
