The Adonis Blue is one of the butterfly species I depicted on this canvas named “Colors of the Woods”, which can be seen in the lower right corner of the painting, resting on the fox’s Ear and to the left of the Golden Butterfly. The Purple Emperor Butterfly is the spectacular species with ultramarine blue wings and orange and white spots. The Peacock butterfly is in the upper left corner of the image and, shown smaller in the background, in the center of the image, the Mourning Cloak. These are all species of butterflies that are found on our old continent and I have combined them here in one image. Something like this would perhaps be rare to see in reality, but which we can dream about and admire thanks to art. Even the fox seems enchanted by the magnificent colors of these insects, as beautiful as they are vulnerable. Some golden details emphasize how important our nature is, how immensely valuable. Gold has not only a decorative but also a symbolic value in the composition.
