This is my largest painting so far and the most dramatic. It is more properly an installation, since the tusks are sculptures that remain hung on the canvas. The two sculptures, which very realistically represent the tusks of the elephant, can easily be detached from the canvas – a gesture that also recalls the very deprivation of the tusks, causing the animal’s death.
To give a symbolic and realistic emphasis, I poured my blood on the two sculptures. Covered with a varnish, the blood remains protected and isolated, unchanged over time.
This is a work that strongly denounces the illegal killing of thousands of elephants every year bringing this majestic and iconic animal to the brink of extinction. Elephants’ numbers have dropped by 62% over the last decade, and they could be mostly extinct by the end of the next decade. An estimated 100 African Elephants are killed each day by poachers seeking ivory, the material of which their tusks are made.
I made this piece during the period when I was living in Vienna and working in scenography workshops for the State Opera. Hence my idea to contextualize the great staggering animal, now exhausted in a bloodbath, on the stage of the opera, without an audience: humanity ignores the horrific show that takes place openly every day.

2How do I install the artwork?
The canvas is stretched by two wooden poles, one below and one above. You can hang it on the wall easily. The work is also supplied with a wooden and metal support, which remains hidden by the canvas and keeps the fang-sculptures hanging. This support must also be fixed to the wall where you intend to have the installation. The instructions about how to mount it are provided.
3What if I am not satisfied with the artwork once I get it?
I like to establish a relationship of trust with my clients. If you are not satisfied with your purchase, once received, do not hesitate to write to me and we will find together a solution that will surely please you.
4Are the artworks limited?
The original paintings are unique and unrepeatable. Prints on paper and canvas are produced in limited numbers. The works produced with Engraving Techniques are printed by hand in a maximum of 15 copies.
