The new Holy Family

The Emperor Penguin’s territory is shrinking due to the melting of the Antarctic ice cap, making the future of this animal very uncertain, as it depends on the ice. The two adult penguins in the composition look down on their young, protected between their bodies. Unfortunately, they will not be able to protect it from all adversities. The next generation of penguins will have to face new difficulties. This small but precious image is my personal reinterpretation of the Holy Family. Every species facing climate change is sacred to me and should be celebrated.

Many animals are surprised by new climatic conditions that put their survival to the test. Not everyone is capable of adapting to a climate that changes so quickly and in such an extreme way. Perhaps we humans are not either.

The golden background recalls the Byzantine iconographic tradition in sacred images, hence the title of the work and the concept of the sacredness of nature, to be developed in a world that is still too anthropocentric.

The original oil painting is no longer available, but I am willing to paint similar art pieces on commission. Please send me your request on the Contact page.
