Rhinos and Blood
The rhinoceros is the protagonist of these two separate engravings printed on the same sheet. The animal is celebrated by my graphic sign and by gold.
Drops of dried blood stand out on the white of the precious paper. Fake blood wouldn’t have symbolically the same power as the presence of my real blood which makes the artwork even more unique.
This engravings highlight the horn of the rhinoceros in gold, since it is priceless. Instead it does have a price, even if it is expensive and is taken from the killed animal. Some species of rhinos are already extinct to satisfy the demand of its horn. The use of the horn in traditional Chinese medicine is supportive of many human diseases and therefore still fuels its illegal trade. In any case it seems that the world will have to do without the rhino horn one day. There will be no more around.
