Echeveria 'Lotus': Echeveria 'Lotus' is a cultivated variety of Echeveria, appreciated for its delicate aesthetic and its fleshy leaves forming compact rosettes. This variety is distinguished by its thick leaves, often pale green to bluish, which may have slightly pink or red edges under strong light or when the plant is stressed. The rosettes of Echeveria 'Lotus' resemble a lotus flower, hence its name.
Origin: Although Echeverias are native to semi-desert regions of Mexico and Central America, the 'Lotus' variety was specifically developed for its ornamental characteristics.
Growth: Echeveria 'Lotus' has slow to moderate growth. It forms rosettes which can reach a considerable size over time, but generally remains compact, making it ideal for growing in pots or small succulent gardens.
Flowers: Like other Echeverias, 'Lotus' can produce upright flower spikes bearing small, bell-shaped flowers, usually pink or red in color. Flowering typically occurs in spring or summer.
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate direct sun exposure, especially in the morning or late afternoon, but excessive light may cause leaf discoloration or burns.
Watering: Requires moderate watering. Allow the medium to dry completely between waterings to prevent root rot. Reduce watering in winter.
Substrate: Well-draining soil is essential. Use a cactus and succulent mix of potting soil, coarse sand, and perlite or gravel.
Temperature: Tolerates a range of temperatures but must be protected from freezing. Prefers warm, dry conditions.
